Female Representation in Finance:
As per our shout out to the brilliant and inspiring women leaders in the ‘100 Women to Watch in 2018’, today we highlight that there is still A LOT MORE TO BE DONE!
When it comes to gender diversity in influential leadership roles in finance, 2018 has seen the business world take one step forward and one step back.
Grant Thornton’s Report showed that having at least one woman in management has improved significantly – rising from 66% to 75% from 2017/18 – however, there has been a decline in senior roles held by woman in the same period!
This clearly shows that corporations are ‘interested’ in avoiding an only male leadership team, instead of creating a genuinely inclusive culture that allows women to pursue opportunities further up the organisation.
The UK was ranked 2nd worst of all EU countries in representation of woman in senior roles.
Although this is concerning, it is becoming clearer to decision makers, that having diversity in leadership roles is integral for having a vibrant economy for people and businesses to flourish.
By 2024, the CMI estimated the UK will need 1.5 million new women managers to achieve a 50/50 split in managerial roles.
So what are we waiting for?!
